There are lots of things parents can do to provide support to their autistic child, and help them surmount whatever challenges they face and get the best out of life. Educating yourself will make a huge difference.

Being successful in helping your child overcome his situation is just a matter of choosing effective treatments for him, and knowing where to look for support. Join forums of parents who are also going through the same thing. You will find lots of parenting tips that can make everyday life with your autistic child a lot easier.

If you just found out that your kid has autism, most probably you are worrying or at loss as to what to do next. No parent is ready to hear that their child is anything but healthy and happy, and hearing a diagnosis of autism may be terrifying. There is a huge possibility that you are uncertain about how to best help your child to cope. You may be baffled by conflicting advice from the specialists regarding treatments. You may possibly have been told that autism is a lifelong condition and cannot be treated; leaving you depressed that whatever you do won’t make a difference.

The great news is, there are numerous treatment options available to kids with autism. There are lots of therapies that can aid them learn new skills and overcome a huge variety of challenges in development. Assistance is readily available to cater to your kid’s special needs in the form of school programs, home behavioral therapy, or free government services.

Treatment options for children with autism include:
· Medication – Doctors often prescribe medicines if your child manifests other symptoms such as seizures, anxiety, hyperactivity, or depression.
· Alternative therapies – This type of treatment often include vitamin treatments and dietary plans.

With the proper treatment plan, an abundance of support, and lots of love, your kid will thrive and learn.

Make an effort to reach out for support.

One of the best things that a parent can do is get his or her child in treatment as soon as possible. Don’t just sit and wonder if your child will outgrow his condition. The earlier that your kid gets the proper treatment and help, the greater his chance for success in treatment. Early intervention is the key.

Here are other useful tips for parents with an autistic child:

· Educate yourself. Learn whatever you can about your child’s condition. That way you will be better equipped; that way you can make informed decisions. Learn various treatment options, ask questions. Most of all, be involved in all decisions pertaining to your child’s treatment.

· Be an expert on your kid. Discover what sets off your child’s troublesome behaviors and what brings out a positive response. What is it that your child finds calming, stressful, uncomfortable, or fun? Understanding what affects your kid will make you good in troubleshooting concerns and preventing difficult situations.

· Focus on what makes your kid happy. Love and accept him for who he is; instead of focusing how different your kid is to other children. Enjoy your kid’s special habits, celebrate successes however small it is, and simply quit comparing your kid to others.

· Remain positive, and stay patient. Don’t be quick to jump into conclusions as to what life is going to be like for your kid. It is very impossible to foresee the course of autism. Your kid has an entire lifetime to develop his abilities and learn new skills!

It is wise to do your own research when you are searching for a particular treatment provider. Seek out evidence for the effectiveness of a specific therapy, learn how safe it is, who will work and provide support for your child, and how they will measure his progress.

If you think that there is “something not right” with your child you must find out as soon as possible if autism is the issue. Treatments are less effective with each passing day as we grow older, so find out now with the complete autism resource for determining symptoms and goes into depth about ALL treatment options for autism, natural AND medical.

Autism is a complicated condition which is known as a developmental disorder. When young children don’t show progress in language and social skills, they are generally diagnosed with autism. The symptoms of autism can be managed even though the condition is considered incurable. The severity of the disease is different in each case and the symptoms vary, as well. In this article, we will be looking at some of the more common symptoms of autism.

Throwing a fit, or tantrum, of some kind including crying and for reasons you don’t know at all is a typical symptom of autism. Of course there can be other causes for this particular behavior in kids, so do keep that in mind and don’t jump to hasty conclusions.

It is therefore necessary to get a professional diagnosis. However, back to the symptom – what is commonly seen is the autistic child will suddenly become something like hysterical, and you won’t know why it’s happening. The fact is, autistic people do not respond to their environment in a typical way, so their behavior is often unrelated to anything external. In these extreme situations where the autistic child can actually pose a threat, then there is medicine that can be prescribed to manage the behavior. In the area of communication, from lowest to highest functioning autistic people, there is the inability to understand vital communciation elements such as body language and even voice tones. In other words, autistic people are unable to “read” other people, and often do not pick up what, to others, would be obvious clues that someone is happy, sad, angry, etc. They also tend to not understand language that is not literal, such as metaphors, humor or sarcasm. Your key to better communications will be with literal words and expressions, only. Those autistic people who are able to do more in society still have a hard time when talking to others, and that is especially true if the other people are not aware of the problem.

Those with the form of autism called Asperger’s Syndrome are able to function in society. People with Asperger’s are able to communicate with others and can hold jobs but may display symptoms of autism like not making eye contact. In most cases, those with Asperger’s will have one passionate interest of a specialized nature such as statistics that they will talk about constantly. Engineering, science, or mathematics careers are where they will typically excel. We’ve covered only some of the more common symptoms of autism. The more specific symptoms will depend on how serious the disease is and of course the individual. The most important thing is to get an early diagnosis and treatment regimen established for your child.

The word hippotherapy is derived from the Greek word “hippo,” which means “horse.” It describes physical, occupational, or speech therapy that uses the multidimensional movement of a walking horse to stimulate the rider and help enhance balance, good posture, mobility, coordination, and strength. Often, hippotherapy aids mental functioning, improves mood and self-confidence as well.

The rhythmic and multidimensional movement of the horse provides variable yet repetitive sensory stimulation to patients. That stimulation can be varied and manipulated by a trained therapist to fit a patient’s needs and stimulate improved functioning of daily living. For example, physical therapists can use a variety of horse movements to improve gross motor abilities, such as sitting, standing, and walking.

According to the American Hippotherapy Association, hippotherapy is indicated for children and adults with mild to severe neuromuscular dysfunction. It aids impairments such as abnormal muscle tone; impaired balance, coordination, and sensory function; postural asymmetry; poor postural control; and decreased mobility. Hippotherapy has been used for conditions such as cerebral palsy (CP), developmental delays, traumatic brain injury, stroke, and autism.

Hippotherapy has been used in the U.S. since the 1970′s. However, it is still considered an experimental and investigational treatment because there is insufficient scientific evidence for its effectiveness in the treatment of CP, autism, and other conditions characterized by motor dysfunction.

A recent study by Bass, Duchowny, and Llabre (2009) examined the effects of a 12-week-long therapeutic horseback intervention on social functioning in children with autistic spectrum disorder.

The results showed improved social interaction and less inattention and distractibility in autistic children. These findings indicate that hippotherapy may have a place in the treatment of children with autism. However, more studies need to demonstrate its therapeutic effectiveness before hippotherapy is widely recommended as a treatment for autism.

Positive psychology is a breath of fresh air in the field of psychology. For too long, psychology followed a medical model, in which you are diagnosed with a condition, given a diagnosis, and then told about all the things that are wrong with you. Unfortunately, this thinking can spill over into the world of parents and children with Asperger’s syndrome, so that they unconsciously start to absorb some negative thoughts about themselves.

Like everyone on the face of the earth, we are people, with a mix of strengths and weaknesses. Children with Asperger’s are different, but they are not defective. In fact, Dr. Temple Grandin, an animal scientist, herself diagnosed with autism, argues that the world needs all different kinds of minds, including the Autism/Asperger’s minds.

Trustworthy and Reliable

Children with Asperger’s syndrome don’t have hidden agendas. Unlike many people, these children will tell it like it is. What you see is what you get, and what you hear is what they mean.

Children with Asperger’s do want friends. Don’t get me wrong. However, their need for friends may not be as frequent or intense as other children. They are wired to be more comfortable by themselves. Because of not feeling the need for social contact as strongly as other kids, they can be taught to select honest, genuine, and dependable persons like themselves, who share their interests.

Unique Perspectives

Although individuals with Asperger’s struggle with seeing the big picture, they are gifted with the ability to focus intently on details of things and situations. Because of this, they may able to come up with innovative solutions to problems.

Because children with Asperger’s have the ability to focus long and hard on their areas of interest, they can make great academic and scientific strides in their areas of interest.

Little or No Prejudice

Perhaps because they know what it is like to be different or quirky, children and individuals with Asperger’s tend to be more accepting of others. They are more focused on people’s behavior, versus on hierarchies or social position. They can teach the rest of the world a lot of accepting people for who they are, rather than pre-judging others.

High Integrity

The idea of trying to cheat on the job, or to slack in their work, does not occur to children and adults with Asperger’s syndrome. They are conscientious, diligent workers. They may need initial instruction, support, and coaching, but once they are situated, they can be enormously productive and loyal employees. John Robison, author of Look Me In The Eye, is a man of high intelligence, ingenuity, and business savvy. He designed the guitars that smoked and lit up for KISS, and he owns his own high end restoration automotive business! Not to mention the fact that he is a tireless advocate for Asperger’s.

Intelligence and Perseverance

While there is not necessarily any scientific evidence, Dr. Temple Grandin, diagnosed with high functioning Autism, believes there are quite a few individuals with Aspeger’s in the Silicon Valley and in NASA. Children with Asperger’s, while not all geniuses, do have very active and curious minds. And once they find their interests, they are tenacious in pursuing them. This is a very strong combination that they benefit from.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Please comment and let me know what other characteristics I have not included!

Let us look at all of them. But before which, let us comprehend the some typical symptoms of PDD and also the causes as well as cures for the similar.

Symptoms of PDD

The signs of PDD are noticeable before 3 years of a kid’s age. Individuals suffering from PDD have a problem interacting. In contrast to what ‘pervasive’ suggests, children with PDD possess problems in certain areas, not every, and can end up being otherwise regular. Here’s a glance at the PDD signs and symptoms.

Difficulty understanding vocabulary
Lack of reaction to communication
Difficulty adjusting to changes
Unusual, repeated body actions
Difficulty sleeping
Aggressive conduct, temperamental imbalance, anxiousness

Causes of Persistent Development Condition

Scientists feature PDD to neurobiological issues.

Remedy for Pervasive Development Disorder

There aren’t any medicines that may treat persistent development problems. But signs and symptoms like anxiety as well as sleeplessness could be alleviated through medications. Moodiness and intense behavior may be treatable through medicine and guidance. Structured instructing referred to as behavior intervention might help children discover the basic abilities they absence. Effective instructing methods can be used to assist all of them in learning to have interaction, play as well as behave like additional kids perform. Special training can be provided to satisfy person educational requirements of the kid. Speech as well as physical therapy might help increase the practical abilities of those children.

Autistic individuals might be mentally handicapped and quiet or might be active as well as show unusual social conduct and pedantic conversation. Autistic infants don’t pay much focus on their environment. They cannot react to their title as quickly as additional kids of the age might. Toddlers along with autism lack sociable understanding. They’re less mounted on people close to. Autistic behavior may also be characterized by the destructive conduct and hostility.
It’s also known as Heller’s affliction. It is much like autism except that an ordinary development is actually observed prior to regression of abilities begins. The abilities acquired tend to be suddenly misplaced. Children struggling with this affliction may respond to hallucinations. Childhood disintegrative condition is associated with problems like build up of extra fat in the central nervous system and mind inflammation because of infection as well as tumors.

Exactly how should we help?

We should support kids with pervasive development disorders. We ought to love all of them and offer assistance. We should cause them to become learn the things they like and get skills they require and most importantly, deal with them such as normal children. Treatments ought to be administered using the guidance associated with medical professionals. Don’t consider kids with PDDs as handicapped, they are various. Love as well as support might help them guide a normal existence.

I work really well with children on the Autism Spectrum, given my own experiences, but my internship went terribly wrong. My mentor teacher hit, kicked, and screamed at the children in an abusive manner. Reporting the abuse has nearly destroyed everything I have worked so hard for. My disorder has been used against me to discredit what happened, and both the college and the elementary school have tried to vilify me to protect their own reputations. Now what?

Question by Hunter: Where am I located on the autism spectrum?
Many people autism experts, people with autism and Asperger’s, my parents all tell me that autsim has a very big spectrum ranging from a nonverbal child all the way up to brilliant scientists, engineers, and geniuses. I have symptoms of autism.

I also have it. I have normal speech but I’m shy, smart, and have a good heart. I am doing diligently in high school, I’m studying a lot of cool stuff, especially the Industrial Revolution in U.S. History, just finished slope in math, I watched Of Mice and Men 1939 film in English, and I’m studying population sizes in Biology.

I have trouble sitting still for long periods of time, so I take breaks. I go for a walk, get a drink of water, go to the bathroom, and get back to class. I also have trouble understanding what other people are telling me. Sometimes I understand part of they say, but miss out on other small details. I am good at maintaing eye contact with adults, but I’m shy and avoid eye contact with kids and teenagers. Social situations make me anxious.

I scored an autism spectrum quotient score of 35. After that, I researched autism spectrum and most people at my level score 35. What does a score of 35 mean?

Best answer:

Answer by JRT
hi. i became curious about this autism spectrum that i started looking up what it is.
please note i’m not an expert on autism AT ALL.

it says in wiki(i guess you’ve already gone there)….
“In the initial trials of the test,[7] the average score in the control group was 16.4, with men scoring slightly higher than women (about 17 versus about 15). 80% of adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders scored 32 or more, compared with only 2% of the control group.

The authors cited a score of 32 or more as indicating “clinically significant levels of autistic traits”. However, although the test is popularly used for self-diagnosis of Asperger syndrome, the authors caution that it is not intended to be diagnostic, and advise that anyone who obtains a high score and is suffering some distress should seek professional medical advice before jumping to any conclusions.[5]

A further research paper indicated that the questionnaire could be used for screening in clinical practice, with scores less than 26 indicating that a diagnosis of Asperger syndrome can effectively be ruled out.[1]”

this got me curious about myself. so i took the test and scored 31. my character is quite similar to what you described especially the 3rd paragraph. but i’ve only been diagnosed that i might have ADHD; i felt reassured that the reason i’m the way i am is of ADHD. i think understanding what you have totally helped coping with things. i finished undergrad, grad school and doing ok working in science field.

all in all, i guess my comments don’t offer professional help per se, but i hope it provides a bit of encouragement
